FAST FORWARD

While I have included Video Clips of old Malayalam, Hindi and Tamil songs (mostly from the 50s and 60s) as these are reminiscent of my vacations in Aluva, it does not mean that the latest film songs (of the 90s and latter) are any less in quality to the old numbers. Thanks to the latest innovations in computerized audio and recording techniques, these are a real treat to savour. Here, I have pleasure in sharing with you video clips of some sweet melodies from films of the 90s and latter that I enjoyed the most.

KALIYAATTAM (1997)

The film Kaliyattam is an adaptation of Shakespeare’s play ‘Othello’ and narrates the story of how Thamara (Desdemona), defy her father, her community and marry Perumalayan for the sake of an illogical love.

Manju Warrier plays the role of Thamara with strength of quiet conviction and Suresh Gopi dons the role of Perumalayan, a rather ugly-looking man, but regarded highly for his 'theyyam' skills and expertise in Kaliyattam. The cast also includes Biju Menon and Lal.
'Kaliyattam' is said to be the ancestral form of 'Kathakali' Kerala's premier dance-form.

Enjoy the Video clip of എന്നോടെന്തിനി പിണക്കം (Ennodenthini Pinakkam) a solo rendered by Bhavana Radhakrishnan to music composed by Kaithapram Damodaran Nampoothiri.

THANMATHRA (2005)

Thanmathra directed by Blessy portrays the effects of Alzheimer's disease on the life of an individual and his family. The film bagged five Kerala state film awards for the Best Film, Best Actor, Best Director, Best Screenplay and a special mention for the debutant actor Arjun Lal.
I have pleasure in sharing with you the Video clip of “Kaatru Veliyidai Kannammaa” an immortal Tamil lyric of Maha Kavi Bharathiyar, rewritten by Kaithapram and rendered by Sheela Mani, Sunil, Unnikrishnan and Vidhu Prathap to Mohan Sithara’s brilliant music composition.

BANARAS (2009)

Savour this sweet Gujarati style folk song from the film "Banaras"
rendered by Shreya Ghosh. Music composed by Jayachandran to Gireesh Puthenchery’s tantalizing Lyric.

HIS HIGHNESS ABDULLAH (1991)

I consider “Gopika Vasantham Thedi” as the best number from Mohanlal’s Musical, His Highness Abdullah. Tuneful music rendered by the Late Raveendran Master to Kaithapram Damodaran Nampoothiri’s lyric and rendered by Yesudas and Chitra, you will never tire of devouring this video clip again and again.

MOHANLAL AND GAUTAMI ON SCREEN

CHENKOL (1993)

Chenkol is a sequel to 'Kireedom' which is one of the all time best movies of Mohanlal. Sethumadhavan (Mohanlal), released from prison after serving time for murder, returns to find his mother ill, his younger sister working to support the family, his father not accepting him in the family because he is a jailbird, all his dreams shattered and a bleak future.

This Video clip “Madhuram, Jeevamrutha Bindhu” clearly depicts his present lot with nothing to look forward to. Music composed by M.G. Radhakrishnan to Gireesh Puthenchery’s lyric, this is a solo rendered by Yesudas.

MOHANLAL ON SCREEN

DEVASURAM (1993)

In Devasuram, Mohanlal has given a memorable performance as Mangalassery Neelakandan (Neelan) the rich, spoilt, wayward feudal lord with élan. Devasuram, directed by I.V. Sasi has a strong storyline backed by brilliant performance from Mohanlal and Revathy besides excellent musical score by M.G. Radhakrishnan to Gireesh Puthenchery’s lyrics.

Enjoy the Video clip of “Surya Kireedom Veenudanju” in Devasuram, rendered by M.G. Sreekumar.

Dear Hari,
Thanks a ton for your kind words of encouragement. I regularly follow your Blog and automatically get a g-mail Message whenever you publish a new post.

Please feel free to send the blog link to your friends. It is my pleasure if your friends visit my blog. Yes I am a Virgo too and born on Uthradam Day (long long ago of course!!) so my birthday precedes Thiruvonam (I don't believe in birthday according to English Calendar).

In fact I consider myself a மயிலாப்பூர் சட்டம்பி (during my younger years of corse!!)
